Horde Movement Trays For Tabletop Wargaming

Horde Movement Trays are specialized gaming accessories designed to facilitate the movement of large groups of miniatures in tabletop wargames. These trays typically consist of a flat base with multiple slots or indentations to securely hold individual models, allowing players to move entire units or armies as a single cohesive entity. By using Horde Movement Trays, gamers can significantly speed up gameplay, reduce the risk of accidentally knocking over models, and maintain precise unit formations during battles.

Movement trays simplify the handling of large units by allowing players to move multiple miniatures as a single cohesive block, significantly reducing the time and effort required to reposition troops on the battlefield. This not only streamlines gameplay but also helps maintain unit formation and spacing, ensuring consistent and accurate movement across various terrain types. Additionally, movement trays minimize the risk of accidentally knocking over or misplacing individual models, which is particularly beneficial when managing hordes of smaller troops or swarm-type units.

Movement trays are generally allowed in regular tabletop battles, as they serve primarily to facilitate the movement of large groups of models and don't provide any tactical advantage. However, it's always best to check with your opponent or tournament organizer beforehand, as some specific game systems or events may have rules regarding their use. In most cases, movement trays are seen as a practical tool to speed up gameplay and reduce the risk of accidentally moving models out of formation.

Movement trays for large groups of miniatures can be found and purchased from various sources, including online retailers, local game stores, and specialty wargaming shops. The MiniWarGaming Forge website offers a selection of horde movement trays, making it a convenient option for tabletop enthusiasts. Additionally, many independent craftsmen and 3D printing services provide custom-made movement trays to suit specific army compositions and base sizes.

Horde movement trays are compatible with a wide range of tabletop wargames that feature large groups of models moving and fighting as cohesive units. These trays are particularly useful in games where players field armies consisting of numerous infantry models, allowing for quicker and more organized movement of entire units across the battlefield. While the specific rules and unit sizes may vary between different game systems, horde movement trays can generally be adapted to work with any wargame that involves maneuvering multiple models as a single formation.

Horde movement trays for tabletop wargaming are typically crafted from durable and lightweight materials, with plastic and 3D printed PLA being the most common choices. Plastic trays are often mass-produced and readily available, while 3D printed PLA offers customization options and can be tailored to specific army sizes or formations. Both materials provide excellent stability for miniatures and are resistant to warping or damage during gameplay.

When assessing the quality of horde movement trays for tabletop wargaming, particularly those made from 3D printed PLA, look for smooth, even surfaces without visible layer lines or warping. Check that the tray is sturdy enough to support your miniatures without flexing, and ensure that the individual slots or compartments are accurately sized to accommodate your specific models. Additionally, examine the overall design for practicality, such as ease of handling and compatibility with your gaming table's surface.

Movement tray legality varies depending on the tournament and game system. Unofficial events are generally more lenient towards 3D printed products, including movement trays. However, official tournaments may have stricter regulations. Regardless of the event type, it's crucial to check with tournament organizers beforehand about their specific rules on movement trays and 3D printed items. This ensures compliance and avoids potential issues during gameplay, especially for horde armies where trays can significantly speed up play and maintain unit coherency.

Movement trays are generally designed to be compatible with a wide range of miniatures and game systems, including official ones. While they may not be officially endorsed by specific game manufacturers, most movement trays are crafted to accommodate standard base sizes commonly used in popular tabletop wargames. It's always a good idea to check the dimensions of your miniatures' bases and compare them with the movement tray specifications to ensure a proper fit before making a purchase.

To paint movement trays for optimal durability and tabletop appearance, start by priming the surface with a high-quality primer suitable for the tray's material. Apply multiple thin coats of acrylic paint in your desired color scheme, focusing on even coverage and smooth transitions between hues. Finally, seal the painted surface with a durable varnish or clear coat to protect against wear and tear during gameplay, ensuring your movement trays remain visually appealing and functional for years to come.
